Linear growth and skeletal maturity respond rather dramatically to thyroid hormone replacement. Intellectual capacity in these children is, however, inversely proportional to the age at which adequate therapy is started. If treatment is delayed beyond the age of three to six months, the chances of attainment of normal intelligence are poor.
